These are the symptoms our customers call about. Elite Reliability RV finds the cause behind each one.
How we approach this
An RV air conditioner that cannot keep up in August is usually not a broken air conditioner. Most of the calls we get turn out to be something feeding it: a coil packed with dust and cottonwood, ducting that leaks half the cold air into the ceiling, a capacitor on its way out, or shore power that is sagging low enough that the compressor cannot start properly. Replacing the unit fixes none of that, and plenty of people find that out the expensive way. We measure voltage under load, check amp draw at the compressor, clean and inspect the coils, and look at how the air actually moves through the coach before we tell you anything needs replacing. When the unit really is done, we pull it and set the new one, and we will tell you honestly whether a straight swap, a bigger unit, or a mini split makes more sense for how you use the RV.
What we fix
AC Not Cooling
We start by measuring, not guessing: incoming voltage under load, amp draw at the compressor, and the temperature split across the coil. That tells us whether the problem is the unit, the power feeding it, or the air moving through it.
AC Coil Cleaning & Service
Texas dust, pollen, and cottonwood pack an RV coil solid, and a packed coil makes a healthy unit act broken. Cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils is often the whole repair, and it is a fraction of the price of a new unit.
Duct Modification & Airflow
A lot of RVs leave the factory with ducting that dumps cold air into the ceiling cavity instead of the living space, or that starves the back bedroom. We seal, reroute, and rebalance the ducting so the air actually gets where you are sitting.
AC Unit Replacement
When a unit is genuinely finished, we remove the old one, check and rebuild the roof opening and gasket surface if it needs it, and set the new unit properly. A leaking AC gasket becomes a rotted roof, so we do not rush that part.
Mini Split Installation
A mini split runs quieter, draws less, and cools better than a rooftop unit, which matters if you boondock, run off a generator, or actually live in the RV. We handle the install including the electrical side, which is where most mini split installs go wrong.
Electrical Problems Behind the AC
Capacitors, hard start kits, thermostats, low park voltage, and undersized wiring all read as a bad air conditioner. Diagnosing 12V and 120V systems is what we do, so we find those instead of selling you a compressor.
A diagnosis.
An air conditioner is a system, not a box on the roof. It is electrical, it is airflow, and it is heat transfer, and a weakness in any one of those three shows up as an RV that will not cool. Elite Reliability RV was founded by an engineer with nearly 20 years in oil and gas, so we test each of those three before we touch a wrench. That is why our answer is often a cleaning and a duct repair rather than a four figure replacement.
Frequently asked questions
The four usual causes are a dirty coil, a failing capacitor, leaking or badly routed ducting, and low shore power voltage at the park. All four make a working unit act broken. We measure voltage, amp draw, and the temperature split across the coil to tell which one it is, instead of assuming the unit is bad.
Yes. We are fully mobile, and rooftop AC replacement is one of the jobs we do on site most often. We come to your driveway, your storage lot, or your campsite in The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Spring, Montgomery, or Tomball. The RV does not have to go anywhere.
Repair it if the coil is dirty, a capacitor is weak, the thermostat is bad, or the ducting is the problem, which covers most of the calls we get. Replace it if the compressor has failed or the sealed system is leaking, because those are not economically repairable on an RV unit. We will tell you which one you are looking at before you spend anything.
Yes. Mini splits are quieter, pull less power, and cool better than a rooftop unit, which is worth a lot if you boondock, run off a generator, or live in the RV full time. The install is as much an electrical job as an HVAC job, and the electrical side is where most of them are done badly.
Once a year, before summer. In this part of Texas the coils load up with dust and pollen fast, and a coil cleaning every spring is the cheapest thing you can do to keep the unit alive and your power bill down. It is a good thing to bundle with a pre trip inspection.
